DHAKA: At least 237 persons, including leaders and activists of BNP and its major ally Jamaat-e-Islami, have been detained in seven districts on Tuesday night.
The districts are Rangpur, Chandpur, Satkhira, Bogra, Chittagong, Meherpur and Jessore.
Banglanews correspondents said that the police chiefs of the respective districts confirmed the detention.
According to them, police in nightlong drives detained 24 BNP-Jamaat men from Rangpur and nine Jamaat activists including district Ameer in Chandpur.
On the other hand, 40 BNP-Jamaat men were arrested in past 24 hours in Bogra and another 40, including 10 BNP-Jamaat men, in Satkhira at the same night.
Moreover, 80, including 38 BNP-Jamaat men were nabbed in Jessore, 30 BNP-Jamaat men in Meherpur and 14, including a Swechha Sebok Dal leader, in Chittagong.
