DHAKA: At least 29 people were killed and many injured in last 16 days of nonstop blockade across the country enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.

Moreover, some 55,217 people sustained injuries so far during the period across the country.

The data was made public from a report of Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity.

The organization’s secretary general Mozammel Haque Chowdhury, at a press conference at the National Press Club in city, said that at least 11 people were transport workers among the deceased.

According to him, the country is suffering a loss of Tk 1,600 crore everyday due to the ongoing blockade. The loss include more than Tk 300 crore in transport sector.

Terming blockade as a culture of ‘bad politics’, he added that road communications between Dhaka and northern part of the country has already been ‘dead blocked’ despite a few number of vehicles plying under police protection.

“At least 324 persons died in last 25 months and a total of 441,825 person sustained injuries at this period.”
