SYLHET: Miscreants set two passengers buses on fire on Sylhet-Zakiganj road in Golapganj area of the district on Thursday, the 17th day of BNP-sponsored nationwide road-rail-waterway blockade for indefinite period.

Witnesses and passengers of buses told banglanews that a group of people riding on motorcycles intercepted a Sylhet-bound bus (Sylhet 11-00130) in Hilalpur of the area around 9:15am.

Then, they asked its passengers at gun point to get down and set alight the bus, pouring gun power.

Gopalganj Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Fazlur Rahman Shibli confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Police have been sent to the spot, the OC added.

At the same time, miscreants also set fire to another passenger bus (Sylhet Ba-11-0043), pouring gun powder, in front of Sirajuddiin Academy, nearby area of Hilalpur.

Sylhet Metropolitan Police’s Moglabazar Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shafiqul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.

On information, fire fighters rushed to the spots. In the mean time, the fires had burnt the buses to ashes.

However, no causality or detention was reported in connection to these arson attacks.
