DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Thursday issued an arrest warrant against BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a defamation case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ataul Haque passed the order in the morning.
The court also asked authorities concerned to send the warrant to jail authorities as he has already landed in jail in another case.
Nur-e-Alam Siddique, vice president of Awami Matsyajibi League, filed the suit against Fakhrul on September 1 last year.
After recoding the statement of the plaintiff, the court also asked Paltan Thana Officer-in-charge to submit the investigation report by December 15 last year.
The court, on December 18, summoned Mirza Fakhrul in the defamation case for terming the ruling Awami League a “killer party” and its chief Sheikh Hasina a “killer”.
