NARAYANGAJ: An Awami League leader was found dead at Fatulla in Sadar upazila of the district on Saturday five days after he had gone missing.
Sheikh Mohammad Mokhlesur Rahman, 35, was president of ward unit of Bangabandhu Sainik League in the upazila, AL sources said.
On information from locals, police recovered the decomposed body from a water body in Masdair paka pool area in the morning and sent it to 100-bed Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
The reason behind the murder could not be ascertained immediately, it would be cleared after autopsy, said Fatulla Model Thana Sub-Inspector Nahid from the spot.
But family members claimed that it was a planned murder.
However, Rozina Akter, wife of the deceased, said he came out of his home with his friends Jaman Mia and Jasim Mia on January 19. Till then, he went missing.
Later, Rozina filed general diary with Fatulla Model Thana accusing Jaman and Jasim.
