157 BNP-Jamaat men held countrywide

DHAKA: At least 157 people, mostly leaders and activists of BNP and its key ally Jamaat-e-Islami, were detained in different districts including the capital for their alleged involvement in ongoing sabotage.

The BNP-Jamaat men were held in special drives led by the law enforcers from several places of the country from Sunday night to Monday morning.

Police, in a nightlong special drive, detained 22 suspected anarchists from several places of the city.

DMP Deputy Police Commissioner (media) Masudur Rahman confirmed the matter to banglanews.

On the other hand, law enforcers held 42 leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat for creating violence in Pabna on Sunday night.

Pabna Additional Police Superintendent Siddiqur Rahman confirmed the matter to banglanews.

However, law enforcers held 32 people, including a local Shibir leader in Khulna metropolitan, said KMP Assistant Deputy Commissioner Moniruzzaman Mithu.

In a special drive, joint forces detained 20 leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat from different places of Gaibandha from Sunday night to Monday morning.

Additional Police Superintendent of the district Mosharaf Hossain confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Police detained another 41 BNP-Jamaat men on charge of creating violence, 10 from Chandpur, 9 from Meherpur, 11 from Manikganj, six from Noakhali and five from Moulvibazar.

Chandpur Police Superintendent Mohammad Amir Jafor, Meherpur Additional Police Superintendent Azbahar Ali Sheikh, Sub-Inspector of Manikganj special branch Abdul Baten, Noakhali Police Superintendent Ilias Sharif and Kulaura Thana Officer-in-Charge Motiar Rahman separately confirmed the matters of detentions to banglanews.
