GAZIPUR: Police nabbed 25 persons in nightlong drives conducted in different parts of Gazipur.

However, a Jamaat-e-Islami called dawn-to-dusk hartal, demanding the release of its leaders and activists, is underway on Wednesday in the district.

Joydebpur Thana duty officer Sub-Inspector (SI) Zahirul Islam told banglanews that they detained 25 persons during the 12-hour drives conducted till 11:00am Wednesday.

Witness said that Jamaat’s student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir activists attempted to block Dhaka-Tangail highway on Wednesday morning.

Moreover, they also attempted to halt rail communication by setting fire to the rail line.
