DHAKA: Civil society at a discussion proposed to form a consensus government in overcoming the prevailing violent situation in the country.
The pro-BNP group of the civil society made the plea while addressing at a discussion titled ‘Ongoing National Crisis: Way to Overcome’ held at Supreme Court Lawyers’ Society auditorium in the capital.
Former Dhaka University (DU) vice-chancellor Professor Emajuddin Ahmed, on behalf of the civil society members, placed the proposal.
Former chief election commissioner Justice Abdur Rouf, Supreme Court Lawyers’ Society president Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, writer and social and human rights activist Farhad Mazhar, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) leader Ruhul Amin Gazi, poet Abdul Hye Sikder and DU Professor Dr Sukomal Barua, among others, also spoke.
Professor Emajuddin Ahmed, however, said that arranging an election with the participation of major parties will play key role of the consensus government.
He, moreover, urged people from all walks of life to respond to their call as well as to face the situation.
