DHAKA: A dawn-to-dusk hartal, enforced by BNP-led 20-party alliance, is underway in Dhaka and eight neighboring districts since Thursday morning.

The other districts are Gazipur, Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Manikganj, Tangail, Kishoreganj, Narsingdi and Mymensingh.

Earlier, BNP Dhaka Division organizing secretary Fazlul Haque Milon, on behalf of the alliance, announced the shutdown on Wednesday afternoon in the city.

The alliance called the shutdown protesting cases against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and remand order against its acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

Khaleda has been made accused of instigating petrol bomb attack in separate cases in Jatrabari of Dhaka and Chaddugram of Comilla district.

In the meantime, a Dhaka court granted 3-day remand against BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam in a vandalism case.
