DHAKA: A dawn-to-dusk hartal for Thursday, enforced by BNP-led 20-party alliance in Dhaka and eight neighboring districts ended.

The other districts are Gazipur, Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Manikganj, Tangail, Kishoreganj, Narsingdi and Mymensingh.

Earlier, BNP Dhaka division organizing secretary Fazlul Haque Milon, on behalf of the alliance, announced the shutdown on Wednesday afternoon in the city.

The alliance called the shutdown protesting the cases against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and a remand order against its acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

However, Khaleda has been made accused of instigating petrol bomb attacks in separate cases filed with Jatrabari Thana of Dhaka and Chaddugram of Comilla district.

In the meantime, a Dhaka court granted a 3-day remand against BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam in a vandalism case.
