DHAKA: Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (DESCO) cut off power supply to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan political office of the city early Saturday.

Generator has been being used since 4:00am as DESCO had cut off the electricity line at 2:42am.

Confirming the matter to banglanews, Khaleda’s press wing officer Shamsuddin Didar said a vehicle of DESCO parked in front of the office. DESCO lineman Moksud Ali climbed the electric pillar by a ladder there at 2:42am.

The lineman then cut off the electricity line to the office. Subsequently, darkness covered the whole office, Didar added.

Sources of Khaleda’s office said that a number of journalists, who were present on the spot, asked Moksud whether DESCO got any formal order in this connection.

The power line was cut off as per the instruction of Gulshan Thana police, Moksud replied.

Gulshan Thana second officer Shohel Rana along with two other masked men was present at that time, witnesses said.

Following the power cut off, banglanews along with other media tried to contact the Gulshan Thana second officer but he was not present there.

When asked Gulshan Thana on-duty officer Sub-Inspector (SI) Faruk Khandakar told that “We do not even know about cutting off the power line to Khaleda’s office.”

Asked whether security to Khaleda’s office will be increased, the SI said police will consider the matter upon receiving complain or application from Khaleda’s office.

Earlier on Friday, some of ministers warned Khaleda of cutting power, gas and water supply lines to her office. They alleged that BNP-led 20-party alliance is continuing the anti-government movement without considering SSC and equivalent examinations to destroy country’s education system.
