DHAKA: Law enforcers, in separate drives, detained at least 346 people, including 124 leaders-activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, in the capital and 10 districts across the country apprehending subversive activities during nationwide hartal.
In capital, police, in a 24-hour drive, held 32 leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat-Shibir, including Jatiyatabadi Sangskritik Sangstha (Jasas) joint secretary, for their alleged involvement in sabotage during hartal, blockade.
Banglanews staff correspondent from Khulna reports: As part of their regular drives, police conducted drives in eight thanas of the city and picked up 63 people, including five BNP-Jamaat leaders-activists.
Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) special branch ADC Moniruzzaman confirmed the matter to banglanews.
In Satkhira, police detained 48 people, 21 BNP-Jamaat activists, from different places of the district between Saturday night and 6:00am Sunday.
The detainees were accused in separate cases, including sabotage, said Sub-Inspector Kamal Hossain, also information officer of district police.
Police also nabbed 81 people, including 12 BNP-Jamaat activists, in Jessore, 55 people, including 11 Jamaat-Shibir men, 4 BNP activists, in Rangpur, 21 people in Narail.
Jessore police spokesperson assistant superintendent of police Reshma Sharmin, Rangpur police’s Detective Branch officer Shariful Islam, and Narail SP Sardar Rakibul Islam separately confirmed the detentions to banglanews.
Lawmen also detained 13 BNP-Jamaat men in Meherpur, 12 BNP-Jamaat men in Manikganj, 11 BNP-Jamaat activists in Noakhali, 7 people in Habiganj and 3 Shibir men in Sirajganj,
Meherpur district Superintendent of Police (SP) Hamidul Alam, Manikganj’s police Special Branch inspector Abdul Baten, Noakhali SP Illias Sharif, Habiganj district assistant superintendent of police Masuduzaman Monir and Sirajganj Sadar Thana Officer-In-Charge (OC) Habibul Islam confirmed the matters to banglanews.
