DHAKA: The government has decided to release BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail on humanitarian ground.
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq made the disclosure in a press conference at his Gulshan residence in the capital on Tuesday (March 24).
He said a proposal has been sent to the ministry of home affairs asking for a suspension of Khaleda Zia’s punishment for six months and she would get release once the ministry approves.
He also said Khaleda Zia would be released on conditions that during this period, the ailing BNP chairperson will receive medical treatment staying at her residence.
The government decided to release Khaleda Zia in response to the appeal of her family members, the minister added.
