Osman family is the most reputed and well-known family in Narayanganj district for its vast political and social welfare activities. The family has been always committed to work for the well being of the people of the district.
Irrespective of political and religious identity, the Osman family has been silently carrying out various activities to help the underprivileged who are struggling with critical situations during general holidays.
The family is providing various supports to people in need. They are providing food to starving people, health care to sick, burying dead body of corona patients, arranging Janaza and funerals.
Different teams of this family are active in the field to provide all kind supports to people of the locality in a systematic way.
The teams are—Mobile bKash team, motorcycle emergency team, auto-rickshaw and van team and funeral team.
From the very beginning of this situation, the family declared that on one of their locality will starve or none to die on the road without getting treatment.
The family follows the message of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina providing services to all not seeking identities who are Awami League or who is BNP.
Two lawmakers – Shamim Osman and Salim Osman – from the traditional family have continued their efforts to serve the people during the pandemic situation.
Besides, Salma Osman Lipi, spouse of Shamim Osman and their son Imtian Osman Oyan also engaged in social work to help people following the family background.
In collaboration with District Administration and District Police, they distributed 10 thousands of sanitisers and 10 thousands of facial masks among the mass.
Besides, the family provided technical support to the road disinfectant initiative in 27 wards of the metropolitan areas and distributed foods among 5 thousand underprivileged people.
Jatiyo Mohila Sangstha Chairperson Salma Osman Lipi has been providing foods among workless poor people in the dark of night for the last one month.
Meanwhile, the social activist Lipi has given food support to 6 thousand families of Fatulla, Siddhirganj, Bandar and Sadar areas of the district. She took the emergency initiatives through the volunteers to distribute food among the poor on demand.
Ahead of Eid ul Fitr, the family has taken an initiative to provide financial support worth of Tk 20 million among poor and unemployed ones though mobile banking platforms.
As usual, Member of Parliament Shamim Osman pledged a Tk 9.9 million donation to stand beside people. Meanwhile, the veteran politician is providing foods among 20 thousand jobless and middle-class families of Fatulla and Siddhirganj.
Local social organisations and individuals got Tk 4 million cash support from the lawmaker in accordance with respective needs.
In a personal initiative, the AL lawmaker had distributed 500 unites of personal protective equipment (PPE) among emergency service providers including doctors, police and journalists.
Some 1 thousand hawkers and 2 thousand transport workers get food support from the politician while a total of 38.5 thousand families get relief under social responsibilities programme.
Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) President Salim Osman, another member of Osman family, also stands by the people though distributing 120 metric tons of rice among corona hit poor in 17 wards and 7 unions under Narayanganj City Corporation.
The family arranged works for 600 educated youths in the month of Ramadan while some 20 thousands families will get Tk 900 cash support through mobile bank accounts in the next 7 days.
No. 13 ward councilor Maqsudul Alam Khandakar Khorshed also got Tk 10 lakh financial help from the family for arranging funerals irrespective of religion.
Besides, a fund of Tk 2 million was provided to support doctors and nurses under the supervision of district administration.
From the personal fund, lawmaker Salim Osman distributed a total of Tk 22.8 million among underprivileged people in different areas including Tk 6.3 million in city corporation area, Tk 9.9 million in union parishad area, Tk 900 thousand in upazila parishad area, Tk 2.7 million for volunteers and Tk 2 million for doctors and nurses.
Tow lawmakers of Narayanganj have taken several initiatives to ensure social distance and inspired people to stay home. They also gave live speech on social media requesting to set up a corona testing lab in the nearest port town.
Some 4 private organisations have provided workforces to collect the corona sample when lawmaker Shamim Osman made a call to serve the people. Besides, the politician also allocated 2 ambulances for medical activities during the emergency.
Narayanganj Club and other public and private organisations were arranged for the accommodation of medics, nurses, and staff members of the 300-bed hospital in Khanpur of the district town, which has become a hotspot for coronavirus.
The 300-bed hospital has been designated for the treatment of Covid-19 patients where 40 doctors and 300 medical staff members are now racing against time to treat coronavirus patents. Local lawmaker Shamim Osman directed the authorities concerned to lend support to the medical personnel who are fighting the killer disease on the front line.
Doctors and nurses are staying at Narayanganj Club, Chasara Dak Banglow, Jalkuri Juba Unnayan Bhaban, Tan Bazar Meena Hotel while medical assistants at Circuit House.
City Corporation councilor Maqsudul Alam Khandakar said the local lawmakers Shamim Osman, Salim Osman and their family members have shown courageous role to fight the emergency of corona situation.
Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad General Secretary Debasish Saha said the medical staffs including doctors and nurse are in most vulnerable situation to serve the people. Local lawmakers supported the frontline activist in the war against corona.
Narayanganj Commerce College Principal Prof Shirin Begun said the traditional family has been contributed for the betterment of people for a long time and setting examples for others.
