Faridpur: Police on Friday arrested Nazmul Islam Khandakar Levi, president of Faridpur town Awami League, in connection with the laundering of Tk 2,000 crore.

Members of Kotwali Police Station of Faridpur arrested him from his residence this noon.

Faridpur Police Super Alimuzzaman confirmed the matter.

On July 26, Sajjad Hossain alias Barkat, former unit Awami League general secretary, and his brother Imtiaz Hasan alias Rubel, former president of Faridpur Press Club confessed before a Dhaka court to have laundered over Tk 2,000 crore in the last few years, a court official said.

Earlier on June 26, CID inspector SM Miraj Al Mahmud filed a case against Levi and his two brothers with Kafrul Police station in the capital on charge of money laundering.
