Hartal underway in 2 dists, 2 upazilas

DHAKA: The dawn-to-dusk hartal, called by 18-party alliance, is underway on Wednesday in Chandpur, Jhenaidah districts and Madhupur Upzaila of Tangail, Mohammadpur Upazila of Magura district.

In Chandpur, the first day of 2-day hartal, called by a faction of Chhatra Dal, is progressing peacefully in the district.

The student wing of opposition BNP is observing the shutdown protesting the killing of teen Arzu Hossain in Monday’s hartal violence.

District Chhatra Dal general secretary Ibrahim Kazi Jewel declared two days hartal.

Chandpur Police Super Amir Jafar told banglanews, “Besides additional police forces, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel were deployed with to avert untoward situation.”

In Jhenaidah, The dawn-to-dusk hartal, called by 18-party alliance, is underway Wednesday protesting the killing of Upazila BNP president and Daulatpur Union Parisad Chairman.

Sources said that pickets vandalized two trucks in Arappur area at around 7:00am.

Meanwhile, all the shops, educational institution, and transport services remained closed.

In Mohammadpur, Magura: The dawn-to-dusk hartal is underway in the upazila of the district peacefully.

Meanwhile, no pickets were seen on roads but most of the shops remained closed.
 
Mohammadpur police station Second Officer Sub-Inspector Rafiqul Islam told banglanews, “Additional law enforcers were deployed in the upazila.”

In Madhupur, Tangail: The day-long hartal is underway in the upazila of the district demanding the release of their leaders.

Sources said that setting fire on tyres BNP activists blocked on various roads of the upazila.

Meanwhile, Awami League activists brought out anti-hartal procession led by Upazila Parisad Chairman and Awami league leader Khandakar Abdul Gafur.

Besides, police men were deployed in various important spots of the upazila to avert untoward situation.
