DHAKA: The pass rate of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations decreased by 7.94 per cent this year comparing to that of 2016.

The overall pass percentage stood at 80.35 which was 88.29 in the preceding year. 

Acknowledging the downslide, education minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Thursday (May 4) said, “Pass rate has been reduced this time. On the other hand, the girls have performed better.”

This year, a total of 14, 31,722 students passed the exams under 10 educational boards which is 20, 283 lower than that of 2016.

Separate passing rate is 81.21 per cent in eight boards for SSC. A total of 11, 055, 68 students passed the SSC examination where the rate of pass and GPA-5 increased than before.

The rate of pass is 76.20 per cent in Madrasha Board and 78.69 per cent in Vocational Board.

A total of 1, 04,761 students secured GPA-5 this year.

A total of 97,964 students scored GPA-5 under eight boards for SSC where the number is 2,610 for Dakhil and 4,187 for Vocational.

The results of this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations were published earlier in the day.

Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid handed over the results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Gana Bhaban around 10:00am.

Chairmen of 10 education boards were present there.
