DHAKA UNIVERSITY: When the entire nation is experiencing digital charms in every possible sectors, country’s topmost reputed educational institute Dhaka University (DU) has lagged behind in terms of implementing technological advances.

The university recently has adopted some digital means after running analog over the years.

DU authority has decided to automate its academic and administrative activities under supervision of its Information & Communication Technology (ICT) department.

DU established the ICT department in 2017. The department has a broad cluster of plans including automating the accounts section, administration and examination processes.

Only a few of those have been materialized till date.

The department has bought a new IP phone to limit its call bills. As a result, around 13 lakh taka was saved each year.

Now it is planning to install a Structure land to cut internet expenses.

The whole registration process including collecting fees for the recently-held convocation was also done on online and mobile banking. Thus it reduced hassles of the former students to join the event.

“We will begin the work of creating dashboard for the students where they can get information on courses and class attendance percentages, ICT cell director Dr Mohammad Asif Hossain Khan told banglanews.

“Besides, teachers will publish the results on online. In that case, results of the students can be processed within an hour. Moreover, previous results will also be archived in the dashboards,” he added.

For DU, the ICT cell has created a first ever database of the students.

The database preserves information on each of the students i.e. name, session, department and dormitory.

“The digital database has information of 38,493 students living in 19 halls,” said Associate Prof Dr Asif of Computer Science & Engineering Department.

Information of the teachers and other officials will also be preserved thus, he added.
