BANDARBAN: Bandarban University (BU) has started its academic and administrative activities amid festive arrangements Thursday (Feb 7). 

CHT Affairs Minister Bir Bahadur Ushwi Sing inaugurated the varsity by hoisting national flag and unveiling nameplate around 10am.    

A procession was brought out from in front the campus that rounded main streets of the town, to mark the opening.

Afterwards, an inaugural program was held at Hill View Convention Center chaired by BUB Acting Vice Chancellor Prof Dr AHM Zehadul Karim.

CHT Affairs Ministry Secretary Md Nurul Amin, Rangamati Science & Technology University (RMSTU) Vice Chancellor Prof Prodanendu Bikash Chakma, Bandarban Army Region Acting Region Commander Lt Col SM Abdullah Al Amin, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Daudul Islam, Superintendent of Police (SP) Jakir Hossain Majumder and Bandarban Municipality Mayor Islam Baby, among others, were present.

University Grants Commission (UGC) member Prof Dr M Shah Newaz Ali delivered the orientation speech.

However, BU is the first ever private university in Bandarban.
