DHAKA UNIVERSITY: Four panels have boycotted the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) elections after raising allegations of voting irregularities.

The four panels—alliance of Quota reformists, leftist student bodies’ alliance Pragatishil Chhatra Oikya, Swadhikar Swatantra Parishad and Independent Alliance also called a strike Tuesday (Mar 12).

Leaders of the panels including Pragatishil Chhatra Oikya’s Liton Nandi made the announcement at a press briefing held at Madhur Canteen of Dhaka University (DU), at the noon.

Bangladesh General Students' Rights Protection Council Convener Hasan Al Mamun confirmed Banglanews that the quota reformation activists’ alliance has boycotted the Ducsu polls.

Pragatishil Chhatra Oikya leaders said their candidates and activists were chased by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men while they went to visit the polling center at Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall.

Voting in the polling center installed at Rokeya Hall was postponed amid unrest triggered by attack on VP candidate Nurul Huq Nur and Kuwait Maitree Hall Provost Prof Dr Shabnam Jahan was withdrawn amid allegations that as many as 1,000 precast ballots were found in the hall.

However, the elections to Ducsu held from 8am to 2pm on Monday (Mar 11), ending the break of 28 years.
