DHAKA: A student of Eden Women’s College was stabbed to death on Wednesday noon at Paikpara in the city’s Mirpur area following an altercation.

The deceased was identified as Menuka Rabbani, 22, a final-year honours student of Bangla department.

Police arrested one Kabir Hossain, 25, form the spot along with a bloodstained knife.

Parents of the deceased alleged that Kabir Hossain, a distant uncle of Menuka, killed her as she had spurned his overtures of love.

Kabir, however, confessed to committing the killing and claimed that he had an affair with Menuka for last seven years but recently she developed relationship with another person named Samrat.

Family sources said that Kabir came to their house at Paikpara on Thursday noon to visit them before going to Singapore and was talking to Menuka in her room. When they went into the room after hearing her screams, they found Kabir with bloodstained knife.

Sub-Inspector of Mirpur Thana Ruhul Amin Khan told banglanews24.com.bd that on information they rushed to the spot and held him.

Mirpur Thana OC Qazi Wazed Ali told banglanews24.com.bd that Kabir confessed that he attacked Menuka with knife amid an altercation about their affair.

“According to Kabir, he also planned to kill her for ignoring him in recent times and surrender before police,” said the OC.

Menuka’s father, Lutfar Rabbani, filed a murder case with Mirpur Model Thana in this connection.
