Bangladeshi youth shot dead by BSF at Cumilla border

A Bangladeshi youth was shot by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday evening in Cumilla's Sadar South upazila.

The incident occurred around 7:00 p.m. near the Indian border, close to Paharpur union under Golaria union in the upazila.

The victim was identified as Kamal Hossain, 32, son of Eidu Miah, from Fakirpura area in Golaria union.

According to Lt Col Iftekhar Hossain, the commanding officer of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion-10 in Cumilla, Kamal was shot by BSF after crossing roughly 25 meters into Indian territory.

Following the shooting, the BSF took away the body.

The BGB has since engaged with the BSF, and a flag meeting has been scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday to address the matter.

Lt Col Iftekhar Hossain also mentioned that investigations are underway to determine why Kamal had crossed into Indian territory.
