A Khulna court has sentenced five persons to death in the 2016 murder case of Jahid in Khalishpur.
The convicted Md. Abbas Ansari, Noshu Farazi, Riaz, Nadim, and Jabbar, were handed the death penalty by Judge Md. Jewel Rana of the Public Safety Disruption Crime Suppression Court on Monday (Oct 28).
Additionally, each has received 3 and 7 years of rigorous imprisonment under sections 324 and 307, alongside a BDT 5,000 fine, with an additional six-month term if unpaid.
The court acquitted six defendants in the case are Md. Rana Hossain, Sultan alias Gobbar, Patla Sagor, Md. Omar Faruk alias Arif, Md. Mehedi Hasan alias Packet Mehedi, and Md. Jahidul Islam Jahid.
According to case statements, Jahid, son of Sabbir Hossain and a resident of Khalishpur Housing Estate, had ongoing conflicts with local assailants. On December 13, 2016, he was ambushed near Chitrali Bazaar by attackers wielding sharp weapons, sustaining critical injuries. His brothers, Md. Suman and Jahid, arrived at the scene in an attempt to protect him but were also attacked. Jahid was later declared dead at Khulna Medical College Hospital.
