DHAKA: The Election Commission (EC) has decided to deploy Army in the upcoming upazila polls for five days as part of extra security measure in spite of having no fear of violence.
Election Commissioner Shahnewaz made the disclosure while talking to reporters at his office on Tuesday afternoon.
He told the journalists that no report of violence was recorded till now in any upazila.
He said that we haven’t found any allegations in the reports from the Returning Officers so far.
“Moreover, we are having meeting tomorrow with Deputy Commissioners and of Police Supers. We have already assigned judicial and executive Magistrates for the upazila elections,” he added.
Beside this, the Election Commission has decided to deploy Army for five days in the electoral areas to monitor the polls and assist the law enforcers to provide security.
Confirming the schedules of the upazila polls, the commissioner said that the first phase of the polls will be held on February 19.
