Law adviser Asif Nazrul has said the journey towards the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election has begun as a search committee to constitute the election commission has been formed.
He also said once the chief advisor signs the papers, a circular will be issued today or tomorrow in this regard.
The adviser was briefing journalists after a meeting with United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk at the Secretariat in the capital today (Oct 29).
“Once the commission is constituted, the process of updating the voter list will commence,” said the adviser.
In response to queries about any discussions with Türk on the elections, Nazrul said, “There was no conversation on elections with Türk. However, I can confirm that the government has embarked on election-focused initiatives. You could say the journey towards elections has now started.”
Nazrul assured that this time, there would be a “free and fair” election, and to that end, the voter list must be updated.
The adviser added that the judiciary process is transparent, and anyone interested is welcome to observe how proceedings are being conducted.
