Iraq envoy pays homage to Bangabandhu

DHAKA: Shakir Qasem Mahdi Al Kafaf, Ambassador of The Republic of Iraq to Bangladesh, paid tributes and homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at his tomb at Tungipara on Saturday.

He placed floral wraths to his grave, said a press release sent from the Embassy.  

The diplomat was accompanied by Muhammad Musa, Secretary General of BCS Freedom Fighter and Mujibnagar Officers and Employees Association and former secretary to the government of Bangladesh Khalilur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of Gopalganj M Ruhul Amin and TNO Tungipara were among others present on the occasion, the new release added.

In visitor’s book, Shakir, payng highest tribute on behalf of the people of Iraq, wrote, “The life of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was an inspiration for all freedom loving people of the world. He was the role model for all of his time. Arab Muslim leaders love and respect him as the symbol of heroism of their Muslim nations.”

He also wrote: “Sheikh Mujib lived, struggled and sacrificed his life to liberate this great Muslim nation. Allah Rabbul Alamin will reward him Jannatul Ferdous for his commitment to the mission Allah Gofurur Rahim.”

Iraq was the first Arab Muslim country that recognized Bangladesh as a sovereign nation.
