The interim government has requested the World Health Organization (WHO) to take measures against its Regional Director Saima Wazed Putul, daughter of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, citing her alleged "dysfunctional" role and involvement in criminal and financial misconduct.
Deputy Press Secretary to Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, Apurba Jahangir, disclosed this information at a press conference held at the Foreign Service Academy on Wednesday (Oct 30) evening.
According to Jahangir, the government has communicated with the WHO, requesting direct communication between Bangladesh and the organization without the need for a regional intermediary.
The letter from the government also urges the WHO to inform Bangladesh of any steps taken in response to these allegations.
Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam noted, “We have asked WHO to keep us updated on any measures it undertakes regarding these concerns.”
