Man dies after being hit by train in Narsingdi

A railway worker was killed after being struck by an intercity train in Ghorashal, Narsingdi, on Sunday (Oct 3) morning.

The deceased, identified as Monsur Ali, 62, was a resident of Sonamukhi village in Syedpur upazila of Nilphamari district.

The incident occurred around 8:45 am on an old railway bridge in front of the Ghorashal flag station. Monsur’s son, Abdul Hakim, 18, who was with him at the time, fainted after witnessing his father’s tragic death.

According to eyewitnesses and locals, Monsur along with other workers were on the bridge, painting the tracks, when they saw the Dhaka-bound Egarosindhur Provati train approaching.

However, two workers managed to reach a safe place but Monsur stumbled and was struck by the train in front of his son. He was killed on the spot, and his body was severed in two, falling beneath the bridge. Abdul Hakim lost consciousness at the sight, and fellow workers later rescued him and brought him to the station.

Shahidullah, the in-charge of the Narsingdi Railway Police Outpost, confirmed the matter, noting that the workers were employed under a contractor to maintain the bridge.

Following a request from the family, Monsur’s body was released without an autopsy, he added.
