KHULNA: Leader of a robber gang, named Siraj Bahini, was killed and two police personnel were injured in a gunfight with police in Koromjol area at Sundarbans of the district on Friday night.

The deceased was identified as Siraj Shikder, the chief of his gang, resident of the area.

Police sources said that the other members of his gang were arrested by police earlier who disclosed the identity of their gang leader during interrogation. Later, law enforcers conducted a special drive to hold Siraj and nabbed him from his father-in-law’s house early Friday.

On Friday evening, Officers-in-Charge of Dakop and Paikgachha Thanas conducted a special drive along with Siraj to nab his cohorts and recover arms.

Sensing the presence of police, his cohorts opened fire on them forcing the lawmen to retaliate that triggered a `gun fight`.

Siraj was caught in the line of fire, leaving Siraj dead on the spot and two police men injured.

Others managed to flee the scene.

Police recovered three fire arms, 10-bullets and several lethal weapons from the spot.

Police filed a case with Dakop Thana in this connection.

Police Superintendent of Khulna Golam Rauf Khan confirmed the matter to banglanews.
