DHAKA: Rapid Action Battalion men detained five members of a kidnapper gang including a former army member and assistant sub-inspector from Aminbazar area of Savar, on outskirts of the city, early Saturday.
The detainees’ are---- retired army person Rezaul Haque, Savar Model Police station Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Fazihul Islam, source of police Miran Khan, local criminals Shamsul Haque and Sujan.
During the raid, RAB officer Captain Nahid was injured critically.
RAB’s Legal and Media Wing Director ATM Habibur Rahman had confirmed the matter to banglanews.
On basis of secret information that the gang kidnapped a Chittagong trader and kept hostage in Aminbazar of Savar, the members of the RAB-4 raided the area at 1 pm.
Sensing the presence of RAB members, the kidnappers tried to escape the place.
Being chased by the elite Rapid Action Battalion, the criminals attacked them, leaving Captain Nahid injured critically.
He was initially admitted to Savar Enam Medical College Hospital and later transferred to the Combined Military Hospital.
The elite force, however, recovered one pistol and 13 rounds of bullets from the possession of ASI Rezaul Haque, and one pistol and 4 round bullets from the former army, he said.
