Three more people have died from dengue in the past 24 hours, while 325 new patients have been hospitalised across the country, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

A DGHS press release from the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room on Saturday (Aug 9) said the latest fatalities include one patient from Barishal division and two from Dhaka South City Corporation. 

The national dengue death toll this year has now reached 98.

Of the 325 new admissions, Barishal division (outside the city corporation area) reported 66 cases, Chattogram division 54, Dhaka division (outside the city corporation) 49, Dhaka North City Corporation 33, Dhaka South City Corporation 62, Khulna division 14, Mymensingh division six, and Rajshahi division 41.

In the same period, 306 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total recoveries this year to 22,304. 

Since January 1, a total of 23,735 dengue cases have been recorded nationwide, with men comprising 58.7% of cases and women 41.3%.

By comparison, in 2024, Bangladesh recorded 101,214 dengue cases and 575 deaths. 

The previous year, 2023, saw 321,179 hospitalisations and 1,705 deaths from the mosquito-borne disease.
