Two people were killed and another injured after a private car lost control and hit a road divider on the Mahakhali Flyover in Dhaka early Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Shawkat Hossain Kanan, 40, and his cousin Rintu, 42. The injured, Hasnat, 42, received primary treatment before returning home.
According to police, the accident occurred around 2:30am on Saturday when the car veered out of control and struck the divider. All three occupants were injured. Pedestrians rushed Kanan to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and Rintu to Kurmitola General Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
Sub-Inspector Md Siddiq Hossain of Banani Police Station said the private car caught fire after the crash. Police later recovered Rintu’s body from Kurmitola and sent it to the DMCH morgue for an autopsy.
The bodies of both victims are being kept at the morgue.
Family members arrived at the hospitals after learning about the deaths. Kanan’s wife, Mousumi Karim, said they lived in Hazaribagh’s Moneshwar First Lane and that Kanan worked at an insurance company. Rintu lived in Dhanmondi with his wife and child and was involved in the tannery business.
