Garment factory workers in the Chandra area of Kaliakoir upazila in Gazipur blocked the Dhaka-Tangail Highway this morning (Nov 28), demanding payment of two months' due wages.
The protest began around 10 am near the Mahmud Jeans factory, where workers claimed their salaries were withheld for the past two months despite repeated assurances from the management.
Frustrated by the delay, the workers took to the streets, effectively halting traffic on the busy highway, Banglanews correspondent reports.
Eyewitnesses, including locals and police officials, said that hundreds of workers gathered near the factory before advancing to block the road.
The demonstration caused significant disruption, with vehicles stranded on both sides of the highway.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Raiz Uddin of Naojor Highway Police Station confirmed the incident.
He said, "The workers have been protesting over unpaid salaries for two months. Police have been deployed, and we are actively working to restore order and negotiate a resolution."
Efforts to contact the factory authorities for their response to the workers' allegations remained unsuccessful at the time of reporting, according to Banglanews correspondent.
