Two die in Ashulia cylinder explosion

Two died from burn injuries after a fire broke out at a house in Gomail, Ashulia.

The deceased Suman Rahman, 35, succumbed to injuries today (Feb 16) and his sister, Shiuli Akter, 32, last night.

Suman passed away while receiving treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery at 12:30 pm on Sunday (February 16). 

Dr. Shaon Bin Rahman, a resident surgeon at the institute, confirmed the matter, saying that Suman suffered 99% burns.

Nine more victims are still undergoing treatment, with eight in critical condition. Shiuli had suffered 95% burns before she died. Among the injured are Surjo Begum, 50 with 7% burns, Sohel, 38 with 10%, Sharmin Akter, 35 with 42%, Soyaid, 4, with 27%, three-month-old Suraiya with 9%, Monir Hossain, 40, with 20%, Samir Mahmud Sakin, 15, with 14%, Mahadi, 7, with 10%, and Johura Begum, 70, with 5% burns.

The fire broke out around 9:30 pm at a rented house owned by Amzad Bepari in Gomail, Ashulia. 

According to witnesses, Suman lived on the second floor with his two children. His brother Sohel and other family members had gathered at his home to celebrate Shab-e-Barat. While cooking, a gas cylinder exploded, leaving left 11 people, including children, severely burned.
