The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested former secretary Abu Alam Mohammad Shahid Khan early Monday (Sept 8) from the capital’s Eskaton area in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged subversive activities.
According to Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of the DB’s media and public relations wing, Khan was detained around 2:30 am and later shown arrested in a case filed with Shahbagh Police Station.
Authorities have linked the arrest to a wider crackdown on suspected attempts to destabilise the country. Over the past 24 hours, police also apprehended five other individuals — identified as leaders and activists of the Awami League (currently banned from political activities) and its affiliated organisations.
Police allege the group was involved in orchestrating flash processions in various parts of the capital, intended to incite unrest and disrupt public order.
Legal proceedings against the detainees are currently underway, they added.
