To bolster security for the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUKSU) polls, five platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed in and around Rajshahi University, the force’s headquarters said in a message to the media on Thursday (October 16). 

The deployment aims to ensure safety on the campus and surrounding areas while voting is underway.

BGB’s public relations officer, Md Shariful Islam, confirmed the deployment in a text message, noting that forces have been positioned to support the broader security arrangements for the student union election. 

Balloting for the RUKSU, hall unions and student representatives to the University Senate began at 9 am and is scheduled to continue until 4 pm. 

The university identifies the body in English as the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union.
