Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus returned home this morning, concluding his two-day visit to Rome to participate in the World Food Forum (WFF) at the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) headquarters.
A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying Professor Yunus landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 8:20am, after departing from Rome at 7:20pm on Tuesday (Rome Time), according to the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing.
During the visit, Professor Yunus delivered a keynote speech at the grand opening of the WFF, the FAO’s flagship event, on Monday. On the sidelines, he held high-level meetings with prominent global leaders, including Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Prime Minister of Djibouti Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed, and Mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri.
At the FAO headquarters, he was warmly received by FAO Director-General Dr Qu Dongyu. Together with President Lula and Dr Qu, Professor Yunus inaugurated the new office of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty.
In addition, Professor Yunus met with World Food Programme (WFP) Acting Executive Director Carl Skau, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) President Alvaro Lario, and Bangladeshi community leaders in Italy during his stay.
The Chief Adviser’s participation highlighted Bangladesh’s commitment to global food security and poverty alleviation, strengthening ties with international organizations and leaders working toward sustainable development goals.
