NOAKHALI: Four people were killed and 40 injured in house-collapse incidents as a tornado lashed Shubarnachar and Hatiya upazilas on Monday afternoon, as the weather was inclement across the country since early hours.

Charklark UP chairman Khairul Alam Selim said the twister swept the upazilas at about 1:45pm, damaging hundreds of thatched houses and uprooting a huge number of trees.

The deceased are Saleha Khatun, 32, and her 14-month-old daughter Sajeda Khatun of Char Torab Ali village in Subarnochar and Solema Khatun, 42, of Naler Char Janata Bazar and Shafiq Uddin, 12, of Mollah village in Hatiya upazila.
