DHAKA: Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni said the government is very much aware of the international standards to be maintained in the war crimes trial, now underway, as questions cropped up in this regard from different quarters.

“As war crimes trial is a crucial issue, we are conscious about the trial proceedings to be carried out following international standards and legal process,” she told reporters after an inter-ministerial meeting Sunday.

She said the initiative for the war crimes trial has been taken to establish justice following local and international laws.

The inter-ministerial meeting on ‘according honours to the foreigners for contributing to the Liberation War’ was held at the foreign ministry.

Replying to a query, the foreign minister said the list of the foreigners would be finalized within two or three months. The committee concerned will update the list in a meeting to be held in mid-September.

She said a list of 108 foreign citizens was prepared at the second meeting of the committee in July. New names are being incorporated apart from examining the list.

Disclosing that Pakistani citizens would also be included in the list for their contribution, Dipu said, "Citizens from different countries, including Pakistan, would be honoured for their contribution made during the liberation war.

“Besides, the government will consider the contributions of many organizations to the country’s liberation war.”
