1,641 arrested across Bangladesh in police drive

A total of 1,641 people have been arrested across the country in recent police operations, including over 1,000 who were named in various cases or had outstanding arrest warrants, according to a statement from the Police Headquarters.

The information was disclosed in a press release sent to the media on Friday (July 18) by Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police Headquarters (Media and Public Relations) Enamul Haque Sagar.

Among those arrested, 1,054 were accused in filed cases or had active warrants against them. An additional 587 individuals were detained for involvement in other criminal activities, the press release stated.

During the raids, law enforcement officials also recovered locally made firearms, including shooter guns, one-shooter guns, cartridges, and other items suspected to have been used in criminal activities.

The police have not released further details regarding the specific locations or nature of the crimes but stated that the drives were part of ongoing efforts to improve law and order across the country.
