DHAKA: Pointing the finger at her political foes once again, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Sunday said none would be spared if found guilty about the August 21 grenade attack she had narrowly escaped.

“All responsible for the heinous attack would be punished, how much powerful they may be,” she said at a discussion marking the sixth anniversary of the terrible grenade attack on her party’s anti-terrorism rally in Dhaka’s Bangabandhu Avenue that left a number of the Awami League leaders and activists dead and many others maimed.    

In this context, the premier mentioned that her government is taking actions even against Chhatra League and Juba League people if found guilty of any crime.  

“If I cannot start taking action from my own house, it will not be possible for me to take action against outsiders,” she told the meet at Bangabandhu International Conference Center.

She once again said the past BNP-Jamaat government is to blame for the grisly grenade attack on the Awami League rally, as it wanted to destroy its rival for good. “But we are in power to establish justice,” she added.

“They blasted grenades one after another in broad daylight, but the law enforcers stood aloof as silent spectators and helped attackers flee the spot,” she said.

Earlier in the meeting, AL General Secretary and local government minister Syed Ashraful Islam in his speech alleged that some leaders and activists of the ruling party are committing misdeeds to tarnish the government’s image.

“We started war crimes trial and are passing a crucial time, but some of the party-men are linked with different criminal activities, including murder, rape and tender manipulation,” said the AL leader.

Party presidium member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, home minister Sahara Khatun, Bangladesh Workers Party president Rashed Khan Menon and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal president Hasanul Haque Inu were present at the discussion meeting with deputy leader of the House Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury in the chair.
