DHAKA: A Dhaka court Wednesday directed the authorities concerned to publish advertisement in the newspapers for commencing trial in absentia of the fugitive BDR mutineers on charge of mass murders in the Pilkhana carnage.

Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan Talukder passed the order for publishing newspaper ad and reporting to the court about it by September 22, as the runways could not be run in.

Reports on the matter of arrest and confiscation of property of the 21 runways were submitted to the court Wednesday following an earlier court order. Showing the accused fugitives, the reports said their movable property was attached.
    
On July 12, the CID indicted 824 paramilitaries and civilians on charge of killings during the mutiny. Of the accused, 803 are now in jail. The charge sheet in the case of killings showed 21 fugitives after 16 months of the Pilkhana carnage.

Investigating officer of the case also special police super Abdul Kahar Akand had submitted the charge sheet to Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Enamul Haque.       

The CID submitted another charge sheet to the court on 27 July in the case filed under the Explosives Act against the looting of BDR arsenal.

On February 25-26, 2009, a total of 73 people, including 57 army officers in command of the paramilitary border force, were killed in the bloody mutiny at the BDR headquarters in the city. A wave of the mutiny also shook other BDR garrisons across the country.   

Later, two cases were filed with New Market thana and Lalbagh thana.
