DHAKA: Mentioning BNP will participate in Upazila polls, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu sought answer from Khaleda Zia why a number people were killed recently in the name movements.

He came up with the observation in an inaugural ceremony of a delegation conference at the Diploma Engineers’ Institute auditorium in the capital on Friday.  

Amir Hossain Amu said, “Now, Khaleda Zia wants to participate in upazila elections under the new government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. BNP will participate in the polls as they have no alternatives.

“BNP must take the responsibility and reply for killings. We will urge the party to participate in the polls,” he said.  

The minister criticized Ziaur Rhaman’s regime and said vote rigging occurred during his tenure. He also mentioned HM Ershad’s tenure for vote forgery.

He alleged BNP-Jamaat’s movement was in order to make Bangladesh like Pakistan and Afghanistan.
