NCP demands July charter, visible trials before national election

The National Citizen Party (NCP) has demanded visible trials for those involved in the July uprising killings, the implementation of the July Charter, and the formulation of the July Declaration before the next national election.

NCP Convener Nahid Islam made these remarks at a press conference on Friday (March 7) afternoon at the National Citizen Committee office in capital’s Rupayan Tower.

While talking to media Nahid clarified that his statement to Reuters about the election not being possible this year was misinterpreted.

Later, he explained that due to the current law enforcement situation and the lack of police preparedness, holding elections would be challenging.

He emphasized the need for improvements in policing and law enforcement before the election, urging both the government and political parties to take responsibility.

Nahid Islam said that NCP is mentally and logistically prepared for the election and supports a parliamentary-style election. However, their demand is not limited to elections; they want visible justice and the implementation of the July Charter with consensus from all parties.

On the issue of violence against women, he expressed deep concern over increasing incidents of rape and harassment across the country. He urged strict measures to ensure women’s safety and called for swift legal action against perpetrators.
