Mosaddak Ali Falu acquitted in graft case

A Dhaka court today (April 13) acquitted Mosaddak Ali Falu, former adviser of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, of charges in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for amassing illegal wealth and concealing information in his wealth statement.

Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 pronounced the judgment, exempting the BNP leader from the charges as the prosecution failed to prove those beyond a reasonable doubt, ACC public prosecutor Mir Ahammed Salam told the media.

According to the case documents, Mosaddak Ali submitted his wealth statement through his lawyer on March 1, 2007.

ACC after that in its probe found an illegal wealth of Tk 45.66 crore belonging to him and found evidence that he concealed information about wealth of Tk 10.60 crore in his statement.

The ACC filed the case with the Motijheel Police Station on July 8, 2007.

The court on August 27, 2018, framed charges in the case, initiating the trial formally. The court, however, started examining witnesses in the case on February 1, 2023.
