RAJSHAHI: Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) of Rajshahi University (RU) unit observed the daylong hartal in Rajshahi City on Monday.

They called the shutdown to press home their five-point demands, including immediate arrest of the killers of RU teacher AKM Shafiul Islam and bring the criminals under trial immediately.

The JCD leaders and activists of the metropolitan city brought out several processions at important points of the city supporting hartal.

No unpleasant incident was reported during the hartal hours.

Police sources said additional law enforcers were deployed at several places of the city to avert untoward situation.

RU unit of JCD staged a rally at Binodpur area, adjacent to Rajshahi University, where its president Imtiaz Ahmed and general secretary Kamrul Hasan delivered speech in support of hartal.

RU sources said that the regular classes and examinations of the university were cancelled due to hartal.

The long-route vehicles did not leave terminals. Most of the shops were seen closed.

The JCD supporters of the university unit also demanded actions against the question paper leaking, stopping anarchy and ensuring amity in educational institutions, protesting ruling Awami League leader HT Imam’s speech on BCS examination and demanding an election in the university’s student council.
