DHAKA: At least 27 leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islam were held by the law enforcers in Moulvibazar and Chandpur districts from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning.
Our Moulvibazar correspondent said that police held 16 BNP and Jamaat men in special drives in the district during the nationwide indefinite blockade, sponsored by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
Superintendent of Police (SP) of the district Mohammad Tofael Ahmed confirmed the matter to banglanews.
On the other hand, in Chandpur, the law enforcers nabbed 10 leaders and activists of BNP including Ashikati Union Parishad (UP) chairman and also BNP president of the union Delwar Hossain from Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
Moreover, police also detained Sadar upazila Jamaat secretary Masum Billah during the drive.
They were nabbed for creating violence in the area and some other cases, police sources said.
Chandpur Police Superintendent (SP) Mohammad Amir Zafar confirmed the matter to banglanews.
