DHAKA: A local leader was killed and nine others were injured in a clash between two groups over establishing supremacy at Kaliganj upazila of the district on Wednesday evening.

The deceased was identified as Ananda Mohan Ghosh, 25, president of Kula Union Awami League and son of Fatik Chandra Ghosh.

Police and witnesses said that a group of Chhatra Legue, student wing of the ruling party, attacked Awami League leaders in an extended meeting in the area around 6:30pm.

Both the groups locked into a fatal clash with sharp weapons, leaving at least 10 people injured critically.

The injured were rushed to Jessore Medical College Hospital where Ananda Mohan succumbed to his injuries.

Kaliganj Upazila AL president and also former minister of parliament Abdul Mannan and Kaliganj Thana Officer-in-Charge Anwar Hossain confirmed the matter to banglanews.
