MOULVIBAZAR: Blockaders allegedly removed fishplates of rail track in Kulaura upazila of the district early Thursday, causing derailment of fives bogies and engine of Udayan Express that left over 100 people injured.
The derailment took place amid the third day of nationwide blockade in roadway, waterway and railway for indefinite period enforced by BNP.
Railway communication of Sylhet with Chittagong and Dhaka remained halted since then, Kulaura Station Master M Shamsul Alam confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Alam said that four compartments and engine of the Chittagong-bound passenger train veered off the tracks in Shamsernagar area at 3:06am on the day as fishplates of rail line were taken away earlier.
Around 100 to 150 passengers of those bogies sustained injuries, he added.
On information, two units of Fire Services and Civil Defense from Moulvibazar and Kulaura rushed to the spot and sent some 50 injured to hospital.
Blockaders may carry out this sabotage, claimed the master.
Alam said rail communication will become normal after a relief train from Akhaura will conduct the rescue operation there.
Due to derailment, another train Upaban Express remains stranded in the near by station, Kulaura Government Railway Thana Officer-In-Charge (OC) told banglanews.
