Police sues 3,500 in Noakhali

NOAKHALI: Police sued 3,500 mentioning the names of 217 people under speedy trial act following a clash with BNP-Jamaat men in Chowmuhani Bazar in Begumganj upazila of the district.

Begumganj Thana sub-inspector (SI) Jisan Ahmed filed the lawsuit for killing, creating violence and obstructing law enforcers from performing their duties at 4:00pm on Thursday.

Begumganj Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ainul Haque said that the accused were charged for creating anarchy in the area on Wednesday during the ongoing nationwide blockade sponsored by BNP-led 20-party alliance.

On Wednesday, a clash between police and alliance activists left two Jubo Dal men dead and 30 others injured, including five police personnel.

The blockaders also torched five motorbikes, including three belonged to the police.
